Climbers For Peace

Climbers for Peace IV occurred in 2002 when the Ukrainian contingent came to the United States. The adventures included climbing Mt. Lyell 11,994 ft./3998m, the highest mountain in Yosemite where Oleksandr Zaydler, Larysa Gerasymova, Lyudmyla Melnyk, Sergey & Marina Dolgey and Kaley Erickson all summitted. Backpacking the entire length of the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne, white water rafting on the American River and visits to Lake Tahoe, Zion National Park, Bryce National Park, the Grand Canyon, Las Vergas and New York City. Alexander Zaidler of Dnepropetrovsk, the official “Godfather of Climbers for Peace” celebrated his 71st birthday on the 13,700 ft. summit of Mt. Lyell.

The American participants included: Steve Knaze and his son Stephen, Kaley Erickson, Bob Guglielmino and his daughter Katie, Pat Kavanaugh, Craig Meltzner, Carol Price and Fred Ptucha.

The Ukrainian participants included: Oleksandr Zaydler, Larysa Gerasymova, Lyudmyla Melnyk and Sergey & Marina Dolgey.
