Our Cause

Upon realizing that the Cold War was really about powerful nations choosing to struggle amongst themselves, our founders understood that people globally wanted basically similar things in life: stable family relationships, economic security, the best quality of life possible and a peaceful existence. The Climbers for Peace dream was to bring common people together, from different cultures around the world, through mutual understanding and in the spirit of friendship, goodwill and mutual cooperation. We had chosen mountain climbing as the quickest and most efficient facilitator to achieve these goals and ideals. All serious alpinists have learned that mutual trust, strength in numbers and communication are the basis for their success in the higher regions.
Quoting Rene Daumal: You cannot stay on the summit forever, you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.
