Climbers For Peace

Climbers for Peace Vll was sponsored by Sister Cities Santa Rosa- Cherkasy and the Redwood Empire Chapter of Veterans for Peace. It was an international peace expedition with climbers from Cherkasy, Ukraine and America, that lasted from Oct. 10- 24, 2010. The climbers drove 2,740 miles (4,384 Km) and visited nine National Parks including Yosemite, Death Valley, Zion, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Arches, Canyonlands, and Great Basin. The climbers hiked in six of the parks and did many strenuous climbs of over 3,000 ft (1,000 meters) including Angels Landing in Zion, North Kaibab in Grand Canyon and Devils Garden in Arches.

Forty beautiful Climbers for Peace t-shirts designed and produced by Larry Fahey and one hundred Climbers for Peace buttons designed and produced by the Ukranian participants, were given out to park rangers and other hikers they encountered, to promote the spirit of Climbers for Peace.

American participants were Craig Meltzner, Fred Ptucha, Jeannette Dothee, Marguerite Li, Jackie Stephens, Connie Gillespie, and Kurt Klavuhn. Ukranian participants were Leonid Unich, Oleg Fesenko and Iryna Fesenko.
