Jerry was a lifetime athlete and an avid mountain climber. In 1950, at the age of 17, he climbed his first 14,000’ peak. In 1956, he graduated from San Jose State University and was awarded a varsity letter in ski racing, downhill, slalom, ski jumping and cross county. He climbed the Matterhorn in 1977, and competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials Yacht Sailing Class in 1984, he traversed the John Muir Trial, all 221 miles in eight and a half days in 1989, he climbed Mt. Rainer in 1990, Mt. Aconcagua 22,834’ in 1992, Denali in 1993 and he climbed to Camp III on Mount Everest in 1995 before succumbing to pulmonary edema which ended his climb. He always dreamed of climb Mt. Everest again. Jerry loved to bring climbers in training for Everest, to training on Mt. Shasta. He was one of the friendliest guys around and will sadly missed.
